The Million Dollar Question: “What’s The Best Cardio For Fat Burning?”
If you’re wondering what’s the best cardio for fat burning…you may be surprised (but happy) with my answer. But before I tell you, do me a favor, when you go to the gym tomorrow, look at the people on the cardio machines.
I want you to look for two things:
- What type of cardio are they doing?
- What kind of physique do they have?
If you’ve been following me on Facebook or Twitter, you’re probably already aware of my thoughts towards people that strictly focus on “traditional cardio” to burn belly fat.
What do I mean by “traditional cardio“?

Get Off The Hamster Wheel!!
I’m referring to steady pace, low intensity exercise on the treadmill (or any other cardio machine) for long durations. Based on the boredom and lack of results from this form of cardio, it’s pretty clear why so many people give up exercising. Now I’ll admit, low intensity cardio can be beneficial for obese people, however, as I’ll discuss below, there are more beneficial methods to lose fat, get six pack abs, and a flat stomach.
The Real Definition Of Cardio…
Cardio exercise is properly defined as ANY type of activity that strengthens the cardiovascular system. To put it simply, if the activity gets your heart pumping and makes it hard to catch your breath…it’s a form of cardio.
Even though you may not realize it, when you’re lifting weights, it’s a form of cardio. Similar to the surprising ab workout I gave you a few days ago, here’s a unique weight lifting workout that really is an example of the best cardio for fat burning. It’ll also help you build muscle at the same time! Win!
One specific cardio/weight lifting exercise that comes to mind is the Clean and Press. This exercise requires you to lift a barbell/dumbbell/kettlebell from the floor, up to the shoulders, and then pressing overhead. It doesn’t matter if you’re lifting 135 lbs or 30 lbs, if it challenges you, this is one of the best “cardio” exercises for males and females to get lean. That’s right, it’s not just an exercise to build muscle. It’ll also strengthen your heart and create a metabolic and fat burning hormonal response in the body.
Still don’t believe that the best cardio for fat burning includes lifting weights?
My Go To Workout Program When I Want An Intense Sweat!!
Best Cardio For Fat Burning Exercise #1: Clean and Press

Clean & Press

Clean & Press

Clean & Press
Weight: Choose a weight that is challenging
Reps: 10-15
If you complete the clean and press for 10-15 reps with a challenging weight, I’ll bet your heart rate will reach 80-90% of your recommended max heart rate and you’ll be huffing and puffing as much or more than if you did a 100 meter sprint (I like to use the sprinting example since “sprinting” kicks “jogging’s” butt when it comes to fat burning!).
Best Cardio For Fat Burning Exercise #2: One Arm Dumbbell/Kettlebell Snatches

One Arm DB Snatch

One Arm DB Snatch
Weight: Choose a weight that is challenging
Reps: 20 reps
Best Cardio For Fat Burning Exercise #3: One Arm Dumbbell/Kettlebell Swings

One Arm Kettlebell Swing

One Arm Kettlebell Swing
Weight: Choose a weight that is challenging
Reps: 20 reps
I guarantee by completing the one arm snatch and the one arm swing your legs will be burning, your heart will be racing, and you’ll have a hard time catching your breath.
Best Cardio For Fat Burning Exercise #4: 5 Minutes Of Continuous Body Weight Squats, Lunges, & Push Ups
Weight: Body weight
Duration: 5 minutes with minimal breaks
Do you notice the sweat on your body and how heavy you’re breathing? Congratulations, you just conditioned your body to build muscle, created a metabolic and fat burning hormonal response, and strengthened your heart! That’s the triple combo…and you accomplished it in a shorter period of time! Doesn’t that beat the long, boring, and tedious efforts of peddling away on the stationary bike?
Although the foods you eat plays a major role in getting lean, if you want to kick start your fat burning workouts into a new gear, start training with more intensity. Depending on your current fitness levels, everyone’s intensity levels will be different. Give it a try. For the next 1-2 months, get out of your comfort zone. Push yourself a little harder. Switch up your “traditional cardio” routine with a muscle building, fat burning, and heart strengthening workout similar to what I outlined above. And remember, if you can watch TV or read a book while doing any form of exercise, it probably means your intensity is lacking and you’re not working in the most efficient way to get optimal results.
In my new book, Awaken The Abs Within – 7 Secrets To Lose Belly Fat, you’ll find 30 weeks of workouts for any fitness level that will help you get lean, more defined, and have a tighter mid-section. If you’re a guy, this is the program to help you get six pack abs. If you’re a female, by following this program it’ll help you get the lean and toned body you’ve always wanted.
But don’t take my word for it. Check out what other customers are saying.

There’s absolutely NOTHING sadder than watching somebody kill themselves doing cardio because they’ve been misinformed about it’s effectiveness.
Well, maybe the beginning of Finding Nemo.
That was pretty sad. Keep bringing the truth to light, Other Brad. You’ve given me some inspiration for my next trip to the gym.
